Did you know that an unmaintained computer connected to Internet, can become a zombie - a computer that is hijacked to send junk email or perform a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack against some other computer?

Between 50% to 80% of all email spam is sent by these zombie machines. A brand new computer can turn into a zombie machine in the same moment it is connected to the Internet first time. Unfortunately some people act negligent about this. They say "my computer works fine for me thus I don't have to worry about that".

Cat5 ribbon campaign is a campaign against ignorance of Internet security. A person wearing a cat5 ribbon or supporting the campaign is aware of security threats in Internet and acts to prevent them for example by maintaining a firewall and antivirus-software and keeping his/her operating system up-to-date.

Show you're aware

Make your own cat5 ribbon today. All you need is 10cm (5inch) of cat5 [1] cable, a cable tie and a safety-pin.

Fold the cable like a traditional ribbon. Use cable tie to hold the loop. Use safety-pin to attach the ribbon to your clothes.
